Smoke Alarms Save Lives

Smoke alarms save lives. The members of the Mathews Volunteer Fire Department would like to remind you of the life saving advantages of having working smoke alarms in your home. If there is a fire in your home, smoke spreads fast and you need smoke alarms to give you time to get out. Having a working smoke alarm cuts the chance of dying in a fire in half. Almost two-thirds of home fire deaths occur in homes without smoke alarms or have no working smoke alarms.
Here’s What You Need to Know!
-
Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of your home.
-
Test your smoke alarms every month and replace as needed.
-
When a smoke alarm sounds, get outside, stay outside, and call 911.
-
Replace all smoke alarms in your home every 10 years.
If you need more information about smoke alarms, help installing alarms, or need help getting smoke alarms for your home, please ask one of your local volunteer firefighters or you may send an e-mail to chief@mathewsvfd.org.
