Dear Mathews County Citizens,
The many members of the Mathews Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank you for the essential financial support you have provided us. This year the MVFD was able to raise $70,000 from citizens participating in our annual mail fundraising drive, and we were also able to raise an additional $70,000 from our first annual Boat Docking Contest fundraiser event. We would also like to thank the Mathews County Administration for providing us with continued funding of $250,000 this year, matching prior years. A special thanks goes out to the Mathews County Board of Supervisors for raising their voices in support of the tireless work of our volunteers, thus ensuring our continued funding from the county. We are pleased to report that these combined contributions and fundraising efforts will allow us to meet the $400,000 annual budget obligation required to operate again this year and remain a fully-funded volunteer fire department.
The MVFD 2024-2025 mail-based fundraising campaign is now underway, and we are again asking for support from the community we serve to continue to help enable our team to provide the service you deserve. This year we will put your money to work by improving our existing equipment and by purchasing a new Engine for delivery in late 2025. Because of the huge success of the first annual Boat Docking Contest, we will be hosting that popular event again next year to supplement the funds needed to operate our department. The MVFD has recently received a rescue fire boat from another locality to upgrade our protection on our waters – necessary for the expansive shoreline of Mathews County. Once put into service in early 2025, our newly gifted watercraft will provide a new rescue service option for all the rivers and bays of Mathews County.
Your fellow citizens and neighbors who make up the MVFD will once again need your support next year to continue providing excellent service to the community. Public safety is critical for all our citizens and businesses, instilling confidence in residents and guests of Mathews County that the MVFD will be there for you.
The MVFD will provide a receipt of the donation if requested by the donor. Please just check the box on the donation card asking for a receipt. You can also donate online at www.mathewsvfd.org using the Donate Now tab or simply scan the QR code below with any mobile device.
Sincerely,
